Guest Speaker – Dr. Barbara Vanderhyden
Dr. Barbara Vanderhyden is a Professor at the University of Ottawa and a Senior Scientist at the Ottawa Health Research Institute. She holds an endowed chair at the university – the Corinne Boyer Chair in Ovarian Cancer Research. Dr. Vanderhyden leads the ovarian cancer research program and is developing networks and resources to increase ovarian cancer research across Canada. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Ovarian Cancer Canada, and is chair of their Research Committee. Dr. Vanderhyden has received an Award of Excellence and the Mentorship Award from the University of Ottawa and was recently named as one of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada. Her passions are chocolate and science, and she most enjoys the thrill of discovery.
Angel Award Winner – Dr. Michael Fung Kee Fung
Dr. Michael Fung Kee Fung is presently Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Department of Surgery at the University of Ottawa. He has been the Director of the Gynaecologic Oncology Program at the University of Ottawa since 1994 and is presently Head of the Surgical Oncology Program at The Ottawa Hospital and the Regional Cancer Program. Many of his educational and academic activities are consistent with his interest in Knowledge-Management, informatics, guideline development and ovarian cancer in particular. He is presently Chair of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Disease Site Group for Gynaecological Oncology and Head of the Gynaecology Disease Site Group for the Province of Ontario. He is Director of the Regional Cervical Cancer Screening Program for the Champlain LHIN. He is also leader for the knowledge translation group in surgical oncology in the Surgical Oncology Program at Cancer Care Ontario with a particular interest in the role of Communities of Practice. He has been Secretary-Treasurer since 2000 and is now President-Elect for The Society of Gynecologic Oncologists of Canada. He is the recipient of many national awards for innovation including the 2000 John Ruedy Award and the 2001 Ted Freedman Award and most recently the 2008 GOC Presidential Medal. His research in ovarian cancer includes participation and the development of clinical trials in the era of new drug therapies for ovarian cancer.
